Berardo Taraschi was born in Teramo in 1915. From a wealthy family, the young Berardo became familiar as a teenager with motorcycles and cars and immediately showed a great interest in mechanics.
He opened a motorcycle workshop where he dedicated himself to elaborating for competitions. Berardo soon began racing at the age of 19, in 1934, in a Benelli 500.
In 1935 he obtained his first victory and in 1938 he began to compete in national races where he was appreciated for his great competitive skills and for his marked mechanical sensitivity.
In 1939 he competed with the first self-built motorcycle called "Moto Taraschi 500" and also began to market bikes he designed and produced.
-
In 1946 he decided to end his motorcycle career, due to the danger of two-wheeled racing and from this moment on all his energies will be dedicated to cars.
Thus, in 1946 the first racing car was born, starting from a chassis of the FIAT 500 Topolino that Berardo modifies and reinforces with BMW Motorbike's engine.
The car that comes to light is a two-seater sport called Urania, a name inspired by a hill that is located near Teramo.
The Urania driven by Berardo Taraschi made its debut on May 11, 1947 at the Piacenza Automobile Circuit where it took third place in the class, making the fastest lap, a race that went down in history for the debut of another Italian brand, Ferrari, which, however, on the occasion, had less luck not being able to finish the race.
-
The limits of the original FIAT 500 Topolino chassis convinced Taraschi to resort to a specific tubular frame that was the basis of the 2nd generation Urania.
Starting in 1949 began the most prestigious phase of Taraschi's sports activity when the agreement was made with Giannini for the supply of engines.
The Giaur model was born (fusion of the names between Giannini and Urania) that mixed the chassis skills of the Teramo house with those of Giannini’s engines.
Production of the Giaur began with the G1 single-tree engine, from 1950 to 1953, and there were many successes in the most important circuits and timed circuits. In 1953 came the new G2 twin-engine with a production that reached about 50 units, some also exported to the United States.
Among the versions of the Giaur model, for the Sport category, in 1953 the two-seater “Champion” was made, an innovative model for the particularly aerodynamic bodywork from which the modern Berardo is inspired.
-
In his career Berardo Taraschi went all the way to Formula One, with a Ferrari 166 of 1951, to which he made numerous changes by participating in 14 GP races in Italy between 1954 and 1957, winning a fifth and sixth place.
The following year a Junior inspired by the mechanical base of the Fiat 1100/103 was put in the pipeline, the evolution of this model lasted until 1961 with numerous victories and placements, also in the United States, where 13 Taraschi Junior were exported.
In 1961 Berardo Taraschi definitively ceased production and racing, to devote himself to the marketing of VW cars, a brand of which he had been a dealer since 1958.

The Taraschi Berardo 2020
The design of the new Taraschi Berardo was strongly inspired by the GIAUR TARASCHI 750 SPORT CHAMPION model of 1953. Intentionally, the designer Andrea Quartieri took up the lines and details of the reference model.
The combination of the lines taken from the past and the canvas setting of the contemporary car, gives Berardo a unique look that satisfies both the retro-classic and the modern current taste.

The design of the Berardo is both elegant and aggressive, its remarkable dimensions allows to impose itself with great authority on the road (204 x 498 cm), its aerodynamics allows to have stability and excellent driving performance. Some details of Giaur air intakes have been adapted to the new model. Great attention has been paid to the back which turns out to be decidedly original and harmonious.

The Taraschi Berardo is unique in its kind, it is a modern supercar made with the methodologies typical of those years ('50 and '60), in which we created what today became classic cars for us. The hand-amde coachwork of the Taraschi Berardo was really arduous but the result makes Berardo an authentic sculpture on 4 wheels, respecting the best Italian artisan tradition and worthy heir to a brand with a glorious past. The strongest link with the past is represented by the constructive choice of the Berardo bodywork and is undoubtedly the most representative element of the car.

Every aesthetic detail of Berardo was created "by hand" with an impressive amount of craftsmanship, made in the atelier of Quality Cars in Padua, one of the best restorers of vintage cars worldwide.

Taraschi Berardo differs from all the other prestige cars on the market, so much so that it can be called an authentic aluminum "sculpture" on four wheels.
The appeal with the past is deliberately strong in the choice of interiors, with inserts and wooden details that derive from another strong Italian liuthers tradition, which alternate with a top quality leather goods that supplies the most famous high fashion brands made in Italy.
