Beschreibung

Presented here is a rolling example of the mechanical genius that made Stutz a revered name in racing: a restored SV-16 chassis from 1931. Originally fitted with a LeBaron Convertible Coupe body, and believed to have been in California since the 1950s, this car was acquired around 1994 by Stutz enthusiast Stephen P. Dean who restored the chassis to show quality. Upon completion, it was invited to participate at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® on two occasions: first in 2002 as part of a special class of display chassis and then again in 2011 in recognition of the Stutz centennial.

The frame is painted dark blue and nicely detailed, employing the longer 145" wheelbase suitable for custom coachwork. The chrome radiator shell serves as a focal point to this stunning mechanical display which comes complete with four painted wire wheels and blackwall tires. The chassis includes gearbox, steering, suspension, and brake components, plus fuel tank and exhaust system. The SV-16 engine has been fitted with the DV-32 four-valve-per-cylinder head as well as a Schebler updraft carburetor. Ancillary equipment includes intake and exhaust manifolds, water pump and distributor, and the unrestored LeBaron Convertible Coupe bodywork accompanies the sale.

This chassis would serve as the ideal platform for a complete restoration of the Convertible Coupe or it could be presented as is, serving as the centerpiece of any collection celebrating mechanical artistry.
