Beschreibung

In a last-ditch effort for survival, Studebaker introduced the Lark model, an all-new vehicle for 1959. This charming, first-to-market compact car was offered in multiple body styles, with the first series, eight-cylinder Station Wagon having the lowest production numbers. Only 378 units were built in 1959 featuring a V-8 powerplant. Sales were strong but, ultimately, not enough to sustain the company past the 1964 production year.

The Studebaker Lark VIII Station Wagon offered here was purchased by the consignor in 2010 from Santa Barbara resident Stanley Mendez who had owned the vehicle for more than 20 years. A history file accompanying the sale notes the previous owner’s service history and also includes correspondence with the vehicle’s first owner, Joe Knowles. It is believed that Mr. Knowles purchased the Lark Station Wagon from Johnson Motors in Santa Barbara, California when new and retained the vehicle until 1979.

After acquiring the little Studebaker, the consignor, an avid collector with an in-house restoration facility, began an extensive refurbishment which included an engine rebuild by Channel City Machine, and a body repaint and new interior in striking period colors. Benefiting from minimal use and constant care, this delightful first-series Lark Station Wagon is sure to bring its new custodian countless future adventures.
