Description
We are delighted to introduce what is regarded by Jaguar Heritage as possibly the best SS1 open 4 seat tourers in the world
KV9740 was first registered on the 22 June 1934 by SS Cars.
The car may have been used as a factory demonstrator before it was sold to Rossleigh Edinburgh, who initially had the car as their dealer demonstrator.
It was then sold to a Doctor in Edinburgh enjoying the car for 7 years, always refueling from pump number 7 at Bill Woods garage in Queensferry Road Edinburgh. KV9740 got the last gallon of petrol from this pump, which now sits by side of KV9740 in retirement.
After the Doctor, there were 5 owners in the U.K before the car sold to W.J. Messenger Waco Texas in September 1969. In January 1971 a Mr. Leasing bought KV9740 and laid up the car for the next 20 years.
Then on the 4th of December 1990 Colin and Anne Stewart bought the car and from this point, the car was destined for a level of attention, knowhow, knowledge and passion that took it from a mostly complete barn find, to the finest SS1 known.
In fact, Colin, with Anne’s support has restored the car 3 times in the pursuit of perfection, dedicating 20000 hours and over 30 years. Most of the work has been completed by Colin but along with World class restoration companies.
The last Restoration was after the car came third in class at Pebble Beach (due to a small wiring issue to the headlight, otherwise it is believed it would have taken 1st place in class) – the car is better than it was when it won its 3rd pace at Pebble Beach .
As Colin explains, “My objective in 1990 was to make the car a ‘Work of Art’. I spent 500 hours on research in 1990 to ensure the car was exactly the same as it was when it came out of SS Cars in 1934”.
The car is indeed a “Work of Art” and further it has full records of its restoration, together with the Pebble Beach Trophy, Original Handbook and Sales Brochure.
This represents a unique opportunity to obtain the best of the 20 SS1 cars left in the World.
KV9740 is guided at £225k. There are period motoring accessories available by separate negotiation, Original Drew & Company man’s leather traveling case with cover .Original Drew Company Wicker Picnic case with original napkins.
