Beschreibung

Chassis No. 67400F7A02674

The GT500 offered here is documented in the SAAC 1967 Shelby Registry as one of those that, for unknown reasons, bears a 'Z' prefix on its serial number. Completed in June 1967 and originally finished in Lime Gold Metallic, it was shipped later that month to Fuller Ford of Cincinnati, Ohio, and seems to have remained in the Buckeye State for much of its life. Its owners there included Gary Hart, Dan Mershon, Bruce E. Gothard, and Robert B. Wetherington of Loveland. Mr. Wetherington acquired the car in 1996 and spent four years completing its restoration, with much of the bodywork handled by Paul's Automotive Engineering of Cincinnati and Mr. Wetherington undertaking the interior and drivetrain himself. During this work the car was refinished in Nightmist Blue with white Le Mans stripes, and a 1968-dated Cobra Jet engine and transmission were both installed. Photographs on file show the undertaking of much of the work. After showing the car for a couple of years, Mr. Wetherington then dealt it through an intermediary to the Gateway Automobile Museum.

Inspection of the car shows that its 428 cu-in V8 is equipped with a dual-point non-vacuum advance distributor, finned aluminum Cobra Le Mans valve covers, and a Cobra aluminum air cleaner; the engine is mated to a four-speed transmission. Other equipment includes power steering and front disc brakes; original-style exhaust and exhaust tips can be found underneath, as can floors properly restored with red oxide primer and factory-style overspray, and the front suspension was completely rebuilt and fully detailed. Similarly, the engine compartment itself has an excellent, show-quality presentation, with correct overspray and detailing visible in many areas. Bodywork is very straight, with excellent panel fit and finish. Kelsey-Hayes Magstar wheels are fitted, shod in Goodyear Speedway Polyglas tires.

The interior features an original wood steering wheel with the correct GT500 horn button, AM radio, seatbelts with shoulder harnesses mounted on the roll bar, day/night rear-view mirror, remote side-view mirror, and fold-flat rear seat, as well as correct oil pressure and ammeter gauges in the "pod" unique to this year of the GT500. Upholstery has been completely redone in the original style, including the door panels, headliner, sun visors, and carpeting, the latter under correct floor mats; the trunk, too, has a proper mat and matching spare wheel. At the time of cataloging, the car displayed 33,967 miles.

With the perfect stance, a wonderful classic color combination, and all the right features, this machine, built for both show and "go," is a tempting GT500 for a new owner to enjoy.
