Offering unparalleled luxury, superb build quality and sound engineering there was only one car that royalty, heads of state and the very rich considered beingdriven in. With the emphasis on passenger comfort the cars were almost exclusively driven by chauffeurs, however, theBritish car industry of the late 1950s largely catered to the owner-driver and Rolls-Royce saw that, whilst a small number of their usual customers may still have said Bring the Rolls round a new market was emerging. The Silver Shadow was released to the public in October 1965 after someten years in development and the new series was characterised by surprisingly modern features. Rolls-Royce broke new ground and moved away from many sacred design principles whilst still retaining the emphasis on luxury, however, the Spirit of Ecstasy still stood proudly on the large chrome radiator, the chrome accents complimented the sculpted flanks and the interior continued to benefit from fine hides, deep carpets and gleaming Walnut veneers. In February 1977, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was introduced. Outwardly, the new models were identifiable by revised bumpers, the deletion of the small front grilles and a deeper front valance. Rack and pinion steering was fitted and there were changes to the front suspension which improved handling markedly. This delightful Shadow II was delivered new by Mann Eggerton & Co.Ltd. ofBerkeley Streeton the 13th ofJanuary 1978 to a Mr S. Woods of Essexfinished in Mediterranean Blue with a beige leather interior in exchange forthe grand sum of 22,608, and originally was registered '28 R' which it woreuntil 1998. The extensive history file includes copy build sheets, the Warranty Card and the Bill of Sale. A report by marque specialists, Hanwells, details the ownership history and maintenance workfrom 1998 to 2019. Of note, the car was treated to new lambswool rugs and four new tyres in 2017. A programme of works was conducted between 2018 and 2019 which includedskimming the cylinder head, newpiston rings, seals and gaskets. The carburettors were cleaned and reset at this time and the car has travelled less than 1,000 miles since, with an odometer reading now showing just85,920miles at the time of cataloguing.A good Rolls-Royce is easily identified, it sits well, the paint displays a deep shineand the interior is a sensory overload of sumptuous leather, mirror finished-wood and rich carpeting. With a history file that reads like abiography and a detailed maintenance record, this Shadow II is the perfect mix of tradition and late1970's style.Video of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow IIVideo of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow IIhttps://youtu.be/YJXc8OBLQf0true
