Beschreibung
"As the 1960s approached Rolls-Royce turned to V8 power introducing the new 6,230cc all-alloy engine which graced the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II and Rolls-Royce Phantom V. At the same time, Rolls-Royce's new limousine model was launched, effectively built for royalty or heads of state. Built on a much modified and strengthened Silver Cloud II chassis, the new Phantom measured over six metres in length and enabled coachbuilders to combine the desirable qualities of spacious interior accommodation with generous boot space and graceful lines. A lower final drive ratio ensured that, the new Phantom could match its stable mates for acceleration and clear a top speed in excess of 100mph.
Rolls-Royce's in-house coachbuilder, Park Ward Limited, produced what was in effect the 'standard' seven-passenger limousine coachwork for the Phantom V. The usual upholstery for the front compartment was leather, which was also included in the list of alternatives for the rear along with West of England cloth. The production run of the Phantom lasted until its passing in 1992 marking the final demise of the separate-chassis Rolls-Royce.
This example was supplied new by Jack Barclay Ltd and delivered new to its first owner, Mr. Panton of Marinjac Investments, London. Sometime later, in 1985, Jack Barclay were appointed to sell the Phantom once more, successfully selling the Rolls-Royce to its second owner, The Countess Beauchamp of Worcestershire.
Originally delivered as a standard limousine and presented in Athenian Blue with blue and beige interior, the Phantom VI was colour changed to white and converted to landaulette specification during the early 2000s. Acquired by the current vendor in 2007, the Phantom has been used regularly for business use covering approximately 1,000 miles a year. Chassis number 4848 has been treated to much renovation work over the years. The gearbox was rebuilt by Graham Whitehouse Engineering in 2013 and a comprehensive engine rebuild was completed by Clark and Carter Restorations Ltd in 2019, at a cost of over £40,000. Also completed at this time was the restoration of the brake and cooling system including a re-cored radiator. A new steering box and pump were also sourced and fitted. Having covered circa 500 miles since the engine rebuild the Phantom is ready to be used. The body and paintwork present well, and the engine bay is in very good order as is the interior which is presented in its original colour combination of blue leather to the front and beige cloth to the rear, both featuring Cumberland Stone carpets. Offered with a comprehensive history file detailing the various renovation work, sundry invoices, Rolls-Royce service and maintenance booklets, a UK V5 registration document and a photographic record of the engine rebuild. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a rare and opulent car with wonderful history."
