The Springfield version of the Phantom I was produced to satisfy the demand from the US market for a left-hand-version of the successor to the great Silver Ghost; the very different driving conditions meant that a wide-spaced three-speed gearbox was more appropriate, and many clients also preferred American lighting and electrical systems.
