This Corniche Convertible represents the refined expression of handcrafted British grand touring from the early 1980s, combining timeless design, effortless performance and exceptional comfort in one of the most recognisable luxury open cars of its era. Produced in limited numbers and built to uncompromising standards, it embodies the philosophy of serene motoring and understated prestige that defined high end coachbuilt automobiles of the period. Developed on the more modern Silver Spirit generation platform, the model benefited from a noticeably more refined driving experience compared with earlier versions, featuring a redesigned dashboard, improved suspension and upgraded braking system, all contributing to remarkable smoothness and composure on the road.
Power is delivered by a 6.75 litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 238 horsepower and strong low speed torque, paired with a three speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Its body on frame construction, independent suspension and four wheel disc braking system provide the characteristic blend of stability, comfort and effortless cruising ability expected from a grand touring convertible of this calibre. Built over a short production period of approximately three years, with only 1,234 examples produced, the model remains highly exclusive and widely appreciated by collectors today for its elegance, rarity and enduring presence.
This particular example presents a harmonious and sophisticated configuration, finished in Magnolia with a Tan leather interior, complemented by beige headlining, Deep Fawn carpets and a Tan convertible roof. The refined colour combination reflects the classic grand touring aesthetic of the period and enhances the car’s stately yet relaxed character. It was originally ordered on 28 October 1983 through Terry York Motor Cars, an authorised dealer, before production in England, after which it was shipped to the United States in April 1984. The car was later imported to Switzerland, where it entered a documented chain of ownership including private collectors and specialist custodians, with known Swiss ownership recorded from 1998 onward and subsequent acquisitions in 2016 and 2021.
Accompanied by an extensive archive of documentation spanning several decades, the car retains factory order records, delivery documentation, workshop material, maintenance invoices, inspection papers and registration records, providing a clear and traceable history from production to the present day. The exterior rebadging in Bentley specification is fully documented within the history file and remains a visual modification that does not affect the original chassis or mechanical identity of the car. It is supplied with a leather roof cover and a second steering wheel, further enhancing its completeness as a preserved grand touring convertible.
Elegant, exclusive and remarkably well documented, this Corniche Convertible offers the opportunity to experience classic open air luxury motoring with authentic provenance, refined presentation and a distinctive visual identity that sets it apart.
