Beschreibung
Imbued with traditional Rolls-Royce quality, the 20/25 model enjoyed a lengthy production run into 1936 with just over 3,800 built. Less than 10% were equipped with Barker bodies, and fewer still received elegant Sedanca Coupé coachwork as found on the example offered here.
Chassis GAF21 had an off-test date of December 3, 1934, and was then dispatched to Barker & Company where it was fitted with body no. 6938, a stunning Sedanca Coupé design. Distinctive details documented in its build sheet include: “Bonnet: 3" longer than standard,” “Spare Wheel Carriers: one each side,” “Side wheel carriers to be 2" lower than standard,” “Exhaust pipe 10" longer than standard.” The completed car was destined for Madrid, Spain, and its first owner, the Marquis de Santo Domingo. This striking design won the Biarritz Grand Prix d’Elegance in 1935 and the car remained in Spain for more than 35 years before returning to England in 1973 with the restoration completed in 1982.
Acquired by its current owner in 2015, it recently benefited from nearly $90,000 worth of work to return GAF21 to its original condition and color. The presentation today is striking, finished in gleaming black paintwork with matching wheel discs capped with blackwall tires. The removable roof panel over the front seat provides the option of al fresco motoring while rear-seat passengers enjoy a private, intimate space for two. Documented history and recent refurbishment make this an ideal candidate for the concours circuit or the open road.
