Renault Clio V6

Forget the Eiffel Tower, the baguette and the Tour de France. The best French product has 4 wheels, 3 pedals and 230 horses. We call it Renault Clio V6. A creation like this has never been seen before in the automotive industry. Even the most exuberant tuners lick their wounds after watching the exotic Clio. This is the original, non-facelift model “Phase 1”. The developers did the impossible by making a 3.0 liter 24-valve 6-cylinder engine fit in the small Renault. But they had to remove the backseat for it…. The driving experience is as insane as the concept and the history is very complete of number 139 out of more than 1,500 Clio Renault Sport V6 Phase 1 production models. Perfect maintenance also helps to fall in love with it instantly. The sound of the gearbox alone is more exciting than a Tour de France winner cycling around the Eiffel Tower with a baguette under his arm.

History
The Renault Clio V6 is a tribute to the Renault Sport division of the French car brand. What a way to celebrate motorsport successes! At the same time, the show model was meant to boost the introduction of the 2nd generation Clio in 1998. Literally. This introduction coincided with the 100th anniversary of Renault. Let's be honest: the V6 is an outstanding party animal. What started with a bizarre concept car, resulted a year later in an equally bizarre race car: the Clio V6 Trophy. It wasn’t until 2001 that the street legal version followed. However, the car that was created in collaboration with Tom Walkingshaw Racing turned out to be especially suitable for track use… Our Renault Clio Renault Sport V6 was originally delivered in the Netherlands and perfectly maintained. The history is fully known by the books, but the driving experience actually is indescribable…

Exterior
Widened fenders, a set of wheel spacers and voilà: the ultimate RS version is ready, right? No, not quite: Renault really went further than anyone to give the Clio V6 the look that matches the performance. For example, the width increased by more than 17 centimeters… To cover this, the bumpers also underwent a major makeover. The link to its spiritual predecessor, the Renault 5 Turbo, is clear as crystal. Also striking are the door handles, recessed into the broad bodywork; it created space for a huge air inlet on both sides. The radical approach has also reached the rear, looking at the double central exhaust system. The silver lacquer in combination with aluminum multi-spoke wheels is, in our opinion, well chosen. What a work of art…

Interior
Compared to the exterior, the interior is a lot more basic. Yet there are plenty of unique elements to discover: the leather / Alcantara Renault Sport seats makes driving the Clio V6 a much more pleasant. A white background of the instruments, racing pedals and an aluminum gear shift remind you you’re driving something special. Or you can just look over your shoulder and notice the V6 power instead of a back seat…

Technique & performance
It won’t be a surprise that it gets quite noisy in the cockpit of the Renault Clio Renault Sport V6 Phase 1. The 3.0 liter engine has 24 valves and produces 230 hp. The torque of 300 Nm is also very impressive, especially for a car in this segment! Without the help of turbos, the classic RS model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The Renault Sport V6 has a top speed of 235 km/h. But it feels even faster, partly thanks to the location of the engine: right before the rear axle. The 6-speed gearbox joins the 6-cylinder melody by converting the hard work straight into many decibels. So the question isn’t how the Renault Clio V6 handles. But: who can handle the Renault Clio V6?

Kind regards,
Prins Classics.
