1963 Reliant Sabre Six FIA Racecar Goodwood regular

Launched in 1961 the Sabre 6 did not enter competition until 1963 when Raymond Baxter and Douglas Wilson-Spratt competed in one of the two works entered cars in the Spa-Sofia-Liege Rally starting a frantic two years of international rallying which included Coupe des Alpes, RAC rally, both the 1964 and 1965 Monte Carlo Rally and Roger Clark’s first works drive. Many podiums included 1st and 2nd in class in the Welsh International Rally as well as Spa-Sofia-Liege. There was no doubting the robust and competitive nature of this small production GT (only 77 cars were ever built) so in 1963 Reliant entered a car for Le Mans but regrettably the race was over-subscribed and they failed to gain an entry. A year later they proved their mettle on track winning the 24 hour Commanders Cup endurance race at Snetterton. Club action continued with Alan Minshaw competing in one of the cars extensively at Oulton Park and Aintree in 1964 and cars racing at all the tracks including Goodwood.

My car was prepared for racing by Iain Daniels Motorsport in 2012 for Spa 6 Hour race. I bought the car in 2014 and entered the 2014 Pre 63GT race at Silverstone Classic where we qualified 18/42 but engine failure meant a DNF. At that point I commissioned Greg Mergetts at CES to build a new engine in time for that years Goodwood Revival where I finished 18/38 in the Fordwater Trophy. The following year I came 11/28 in the Goodwood MM Les Leston Trophy. 2019 Goodwood Trophy, Alex Drabble came 13/26 in the Fordwater Trophy. In between the car has been a regular competitor in GTSCC, HRDC and Pre 63GT. The car is looked after by Iain Daniels Motorsport.

Road registered so eligible for all road events including Modena Cento Ore.

FIA HTP until 2027, priced at a fraction of the money I have spent on the car at £49,950
