Beschreibung

Porsche’s 944 series debuted in 1982 and its production ended nearly a decade later in 1991. Constructed on the same platform as the 924, the 944 was one of the most successful Porsche production cars of the era. The 944 S2 was introduced in 1989, powered by a new and more powerful three-liter engine that offered an excellent torque curve and propelled the Porsche to almost 150 mph. Only 1,702 examples of the rarer 944 S2 Cabriolet variant were built in the final-production year, with just 562 units originally slated for US delivery.

This stellar example was formerly part of the famed Drendel Family Collection and was sold to the consignor at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island sale in 2012. Today, this 944 remains in exceptional condition and, at the time of cataloguing, the Porsche displayed under 19,000 miles. Recently, the consignor, a noted Porsche author and technician, installed a new battery, performed an oil service, replaced the timing and balance shaft belts with new tensioners and rollers, and carried out extensive detailing. This service work is documented by a detailed note on file.

The Porsche is accompanied at auction by a tool kit, manuals, jack, and spare. It is extremely rare to find such a well-kept, open 944 S2 and this example would make an excellent addition to a collection of sports cars.
