Beschreibung

The GTS was the final and for many the ultimate version of the 928 model and this is one of only 44 five speed manual examples supplied new to the UK. It must also be amongst the finest having recently undergone a no expense spared restoration completed by the official Porsche Centre in Glasgow, costing in excess of £75,000.

This GTS was completed at the factory on the 29th June 1992 and was supplied when new by Porsche main dealer Chariots of St Albans later that year on the 17th September, as noted in the original stamped service book and in the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity on file. The latter confirms that the 928 remains faithful to its original specification with paintwork in Guards Red and interior trimmed in Classic Grey leather. Options fitted include sports seats with electric height adjustment, top tinted windscreen and electric sunroof. The original fitted stereo has recently been replaced with the highly rated Blaupunkt Bremen retro unit. This retains the appearance of the period correct Toronto unit (as was commonly fitted to Porsche cars of this era) but features vastly improved modern amplification, DAB radio, Bluetooth and modern phone connectivity allowing music streaming etc.

This 928 has been well maintained throughout its life as documented in stamps in the original service book and detailed in extensive invoicing on file. These invoices show that servicing was not just an oil change to get a stamp, any items requiring attention were addressed without compromise throughout the car’s life.

In 2015 this GTS was offered for sale by Hexagon Classics, a well-regarded marque specialist in North London and was purchased soon after by a Scottish enthusiast. Hexagon only offer very nice examples and this 928 was no exception, however, this new owner wanted to take it from being merely nice to as new and fantastic. To this end the car was despatched to the official Porsche Centre in Glasgow for its transformation.
Every aspect of the car was minutely examined and all parts were either renewed or refurbished as appropriate on a no expense spared basis. The work completed is far too much to list here but invoicing on file details everything done, for example it was decided to replace all road wheels with new factory fresh items as they had been refurbished before. A full glass out repaint was completed by Mitchell Ingles, the approved Porsche repair centre and £6,000 was spent just on new exterior trim, mouldings and lights, the headlights being uprated to xenon internals retaining the exact look of the originals.

The 928 has covered a minimal mileage since completion of this transformation on dry summer roads. It thus remains as close to a brand new 928 GTS Manual as one could hope to find. So often restored cars whilst looking great are rather disappointing to drive, lacking the integrity of the original. A recent test drive confirms the depth and quality of work completed for it also drives as new with the “hewn from solid feel” that is synonymous with the best examples of the 928.

If you want an as new ultimate example of what many regard as the finest version of the 928, then here it is. It comes with all keys, tools, original books including stamped service book, invoices and of course full documentation of the Porsche Dealer restoration.
