Beschreibung
"This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY
Porsche's intended replacement for the 911 may not have achieved that particular goal, but it wasn't from a lack of performance or technological wizardry. An alloy V8 was attached to a rear-mounted gearbox and the galvanised body had aluminium doors and bonnet. The 928 was launched to a fanfare and surprised many by being named ‘European Car of the Year’. Critics immediately recognised the advances inherent in the 928 over the 911 and the car was universally praised as one of the greatest 'GT' cars of all time. It handled, was quick, comfortable and looked fantastic. With the 928, Porsche created a serious long distance grand-touring car that could also tackle twisting B-roads with ease, thanks to super-direct steering, 50/50 weight distribution and a clever Weissach rear axle that kept the car firmly planted. Many road testers found that their nerve ran out long before the 928's grip. The 928 was produced from 1978 until 1995 and from 1978 to 1980 the initial displacement of the water-cooled, single overhead cam, V8 engine was 4.5 litres producing 240bhp which resulted in a top speed of 158mph and a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. Styling was the same in both 1978 and 1979, with the body lacking both front and rear spoilers. The distinctive rounded rear end without a spoiler is an unmistakable distinguishing feature of the early 928 and is now considered the purest example of the design.
First registered in August 1979, this 1978 specification 4.5 litre, automatic, sunroof car presents beautifully in its original Casablanca Beige Metallic with Brown Pasha interior. Resprayed in its original factory colour, the car was also treated to all new rubbers at the same time. Serviced when painted, the car also benefitted from a new cambelt, water pump, Radtech radiator, alternator, ancillary belts, fuel pump, oil filter and gearbox fluid and filter. The vendor, who bought the car in 2017, placed the car into storage upon purchase where it has remained until now. Having done virtually no miles since all the work was carried out the car has covered just over 85,000 miles in total.
Supplied with a V5C registration document, original owner's manual with stamped service history, receipts and MoT’s. This capable classic presents beautifully and highlights the 928 design concept in its purest form.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
