PROVENANCE
Richard Barnes, San Luis Obispo, California (acquired new in 1973)
Al Ierardi, Naples, Florida (acquired from the above in 2014)
Current Owner (acquired from the above)

Featuring a 2.4-liter engine with greater power and torque, the 1973 Porsche 911 line was offered in three tune levels (T, E, and S) plus the 2.7-liter Carrera RS racing-homologation special. Handling the added power was the Type 915 five-speed gearbox. Late-production North America-bound 911 T models were equipped with Bosch CIS fuel injection, boosting output to 140 hp with lower emissions.

An amazingly well-preserved example of the final “long hood” Porsche 911 model, this 1973 Porsche 911 T coupe remains extremely original, with fewer than 20,000 documented miles on the odometer. Priced at $9,532.50 when new, this 911 T was equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox ($165), Code 936 Silver Metallic paint ($262), Option Group G26 ($1,011), fresh air heating and ventilation, leatherette-covered steering wheel, electric heated rear window, three-speed windshield wipers, capacitive discharge ignition, undercoating, and front and rear rubber bumperettes.

Sold new on May 5, 1973, with 36 miles, this 1973 Porsche 911 T coupe is a long-term California car with exceptional originality and just two prior private owners. Mileage is progressively documented from purchase to eventual storage in 1979, where it remained until early 2014 when the Porsche reemerged at 19,470 miles. The 911 T was reviewed and given a major service at Nohr’s Auto Haus in Buellton, California, on March 10, 2014, at 19,648 miles, with the fuel, ignition, and charging systems recommissioned and fluids replaced.

As offered, this amazing Porsche features consistent paint-depth readings between 4 and 7 mils with a detailed paint meter chart on file. Its glass is original, with Sekurit side windows and Sigla windshield. The original Dunlop spare tire remains mounted to a 1/73 date-coded spare wheel. The original radio was installed by the selling dealer and remains in place, along with its accompanying manuals. The original black interior remains nearly flawless; the dash is not cracked, and the door pockets are not saggy, unlike so many other 911 models of similar vintage.

Other desirable characteristics include 1972-dated seat belts, original screws and fasteners retaining factory markings throughout, the presence of original decals and trim, and even the protective plastic sun-visor wrapping never removed by the selling dealer. The original Dunlop tires were still mounted on the car when it was removed from storage; however, they have since been replaced with new Pirelli tires. Also included is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, confirming the engine and gearbox are original to the vehicle. Exceptionally original and wonderfully preserved, this low-mileage 1973 Porsche 911 T coupe makes for an extremely compelling find for collectors and marque enthusiasts everywhere.
