Beschreibung
"If you had to create a list of Porsche tuning specialists from the eighties, then chances are, DP Motorsport would be one of the first to come to mind. Formed in 1973, it was the vision of Ekkehard Zimmermann with DP referring to “Design and Plastic”. After success with the Kremer RSR, continued commissions from Kremer resulted in one of the most fearsome Porsche 911's ever, the Kremer Racings 935 K3. The extreme aerodynamics came straight from Ekkehard’s pen and helped to create a car that dominated the 1975 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A car that is now part of Porsche folklore.
Long before Porsche offered a road going slantnose through the Sonderwunsch programme, DP were working on a road going version of the 935 race cars that had been so successful in competition and created so much customer interest. A number of 935 inspired cars from various Porsche tuners then emerged, but given DP’s integral role in the development of the track programme cars the DP935 is almost more official than the 930SE cars that rolled off Stuttgart’s production line in the mid-Eighties.
This car is a 1987 model, with only 20,369 recorded miles and only four former keepers since 1989. It was supplied by Auto Zeitz GmbH to DP Motorsport who converted it to DP935 US spec and then shipped the car to their authorised DP Motorsport importer, Fred Opert Racing, in New Jersey. The car comes with a six-page fax from DP confirming the build spec of this VIN numbered vehicle and that Fred Opert was the US importer. The car remained in the US for only 2 years before coming to the UK in November 1989 with an odometer reading of under 4,000 miles. There is significant documentation in the form of MoT certificates and service history post 1989 to support the current mileage of 20,535. The current condition of the car is excellent and consistent with having been lightly used throughout its entire life. All DP features appear to be present including the original alloys and even the DP Motorsport branded front mats.
In June 2011 911 & Porsche World magazine featured this very rare and special car on the cover with a 959 in a piece called ‘Back to the 80’s’ - a page dedicated to the two cars labelled the ultimate 80’s pinups. A copy of the magazine is included in the history file and can be found online at www.historics.co.uk - well worth a read as is the staggering amount of detail found in the history file together with the comprehensively stamped service booklets. Offered in stunning condition, with a recent minor fluid service and offered from a private family collection, this is a unique opportunity and there can be few rarer and more desirable icons of the 80’s than this example and viewing is highly recommended.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
