Beschreibung

"Starting in 1978, the new 3.0 litre 911 SC was the second generation basic 911 model. It was in effect a Carrera 3 (known as a 911S in the United States) detuned to provide 180 bhp. The ‘SC’ designation was reintroduced by Porsche for the first time since the 356 SC as distinguished from the race-engine 356 Carrera. No Carrera versions were produced and the 930 Turbo remained at the top of the range. Porsche's engineers felt that the weight of the extra luxury, safety and emissions equipment on these cars was blunting performance compared to the earlier, lighter cars with the same power output, so in non-US cars, power was increased to 185 hp for 1980, then finally to 201 hp. However, cars sold in the US market retained their lower-compression 180 hp engines throughout. This enabled them to be run on lower-octane fuel but made them less desirable, indeed SC’s sold in the UK could be also specified with a desirable Sport Group Package which added stiffer suspension, the rear spoiler, front rubber lip and black Fuchs wheels.
A quite incredible find, this 1981 example of the desirable Sport optioned 911 SC Targa has been with the owner and our vendor since 1985 when he purchased it from the second owner via No5 Garage in W12 London as found in the invoices and original sticker in the rear window. First registered on 12th June and finished in black on black with the important original Fuchs wheels (including spare) and iconic whale tale. When purchased in 1985 after a search for the desired colour combination and sport specification the car had covered a lofty 56,000 miles, over the next decade our vendor, working in sales in London, enjoyed the trappings of the ‘yuppy’ lifestyle with oversized mobile phones and big bonuses one of which when he won he decided to retrim the houndstooth trim (sadly) with an 80’s retro style presented today. As years went by the racy 911 was replaced by a luxury Lexus (found next to the 911 in the barn) but the Targa remained his pride and joy, memory of his early success.
As the car became the garage queen but regularly used and serviced the mileage declined and over the last decade, although regularly started, it had found itself restricted to the barn. A dry and well-ventilated location this provided an ideal storage for the car which up until the start of the winter was also covered but due to a storm this cover must have been blown off and thus the dust settled on the car. Don’t be fooled, under that dust are soft rubbers, no cracks in the plastic, a car that starts and runs well and has all of the electrics functioning… indeed if washed would look like any other well-preserved survivor 911 SC and at auction we have enlisted detailers to show you just how good. The last service was in late 2006 with Specialists GT One and we would advise that it would require some light recommissioning before using in anger, fan belts, new fuel and oil but the tyres are not cracked and when running gives very little indication of its sheltered last decade.
Offered with an original book pack, a good history file with the original purchase invoice from No.5 Garage in 1985 and details of its more recent service coupled to Sorn notifications and ample MoT certificates. This really is a survivor even boasting the original pre-1985 silver wheel nut locks including both magnetic release tools and a car that has a great story and represents a very desirable black on black Sport specification low mileage low owner example…. A light recommissioning and perhaps returning the houndstooth trim would be in order but afterwards this would be a real collector’s example for which viewing is highly recommended.
