As per previous generations, the RS was made more hardcore – lighter, faster, and sharper – than the standard model. With increased displacement over the standard GT3, the RS’ 4.0-liter flat-six engine developed 500 hp and 338 lbs./ft. of torque and was mated to a rapid seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox delivering power to the rear wheels. Other distinctions included more aggressive aerodynamics, while a magnesium roof and carbon fiber front fenders, hood, and engine cover were additional weight-saving measures. Concluding their September 2016 review, Car and Driver stated the RS was “one of the world’s best cars with one of the most spectacular engine notes.”
