Beschreibung

Left-hand drive, UK registered, just 66,000 miles, well maintained and ready to enjoyExpensive to produce, premier American RV using traditional engineering methodsAircraft-style semi-monocoque fuselage with reliable Chevrolet underpinningsDescribed as easy to drive with light steering, smooth gearbox and a powerful 7.4-litre V8An extremely versatile and highly attractive piece of automotive art presented in fine orderAirstream travel trailers and recreational vehicles have been produced in the US since the late 1930s. The instantly recognisable profile and polished aluminium finish had been designed using traditional aviation techniques to reduce drag whilstin motion. The company was created by Wally Byam who began building trailers in his backyard in Los Angeles during the late 1920s. The first Airstream, called the "Clipper" in 1936, was named after a record-breaking trans-Atlantic seaplane. It slept four, carried its own water supply, was fitted with electric lights and cost $1,200In 1974, Airstream began manufacturing a Class A motorhome, badged "Argosy". They began as painted 20 and 24-foot models and were followed in 1979 by the first examples of the Classic model motorhome, with an unpainted aluminium body much like the traditional trailers. These premier, high-quality Motorhomes were produced in a number of different lengths through to the early 1990s when the traditional and costly manufacturing techniques were exchanged for a more modern fibreglass construction.Offered here is one of the very last of the traditional, high quality and extremely stylish Airstream Motorhomes built in 1992 just before construction changed to Fibreglass. This example was imported into the UK in 2010, currently indicates just over 66,000 miles and is believed to be the largest in the country. It is truly spectacular and presents very well both inside and out due to a sympathetic restoration in 2010 by Northampton based RV specialist LAS Motorhomes. The 7.4 litre V8 fires into life on the first turn of the key, the steering feels light and relatively precise and sitting in the extremely comfortable driver's seat vision is excellent making for a very pleasant driving experience. The aforementioned sympathetic restoration included all soft furnishings reupholstered in leather by a trimming company specialising in aircraft interiors. The aluminium fuselage has been painstakingly stripped, polished and repainted to a very high standard while the Alcoa aluminium wheels have been polished and re-lacquered. Less visible work includes the refurbishment of the self-levelling jacking system; replacement of the underfloor; rewiring for UK 240-volt supply; chassis refurbishment and undersealing; re-plumbing; refurbishment of the running gear including brakes; new front adjustable airbags; and new tyres all around. Engine work included new timing chains and a replacement radiator.Open the door and the steps automatically pop outto welcome you onboard and the firstthing you notice are the high-quality finishes including polishedaluminium fixings, hardwood floor, bespokecarpentry, soft leather, quality curtains and generally thoughtful design.Step inside this rolling work-of-art andinstantly the space feels light, clean and not at all stuffy. Details like the wrap-around glass at the rear of the RV where the main bed is located inspire you to park in a beautiful location and enjoy the sunrise with a stunning 180-degree view, just magic. It'saccompanied by the original owners guide specific to this model, user manuals for many of the onboard appliances,a history file documenting maintenance over the years and thecurrent V5C and MOT Certificate.Become an exclusive member of the Airstreamers club, drive in style, arrive in style and be safe in the knowledge you have the coolest rig in the paddock or campsite. The list of good reasons to become the new owner of this example goes on; family breaks, trips to Le Mans, spare room, office during Covid-19, motorsport, film crew, events or just because its "so darn cool".You can now book a one-to-one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location Monday to Friday between Thursday 29th October - 12th November.
