The 911 presented at the end of the '70s, more precisely in 1978, with the name "SC", Super Carrera, is aesthetically little different from the previous 911 2.7 series except for the widened rear fenders. But the real novelty of the Porsche SC is the bigger engine: a three-liter engine generating 180 hp. The 911 Turbo 3.3 is produced in parallel, also with a new 300 hp supercharged engine; the latter the first to be offered as a convertible: an open-top Turbo was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. The project was temporarily abandoned, but the idea of the convertible was liked and it soon appeared on the version with a naturally aspirated engine. The 911 SC cabriolet was presented at the 1982 Geneva Motor Show and went into production immediately. Derived from the Targa, the cabriolet version is equipped with a fabric hood with steel structure; this choice was made to make the soft top stable at high speeds even when closed. The rear window is of plastic and can be opened with a zip. To increase comfort on board during travel with the hood folded down, a manual heating system is installed, not provided on the coupe. The high performance and the line would make the 911SC cabriolet one of the most popular convertibles of the 80s, rather to the detriment of the Targa version, slightly expensive, but which began to decline. Over the years, the SC series has not undergone significant changes and was developed in parallel with the Turbo 3.3. In 1984 the entire 911 SC range was replaced by the Carrera 3.2; this time given the success of the previous model the cabriolet version was launched immediately. A limited series of the 911 SC was produced: the so-called Jubilee, created to celebrate 50 years of the factory, with only 200 vehicles being produced, all in Meteor gray with red leather/cloth interior.
The Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet, chassis no. WP0ZZZ91ZDS170676 is one of the cars built in 1983 and has had two owners; the marked kilometres are 84,541 km and is one of only 2,496 units produced. It comes from the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. The car is accompanied by the use and maintenance manual of the period, with the documentation of the servicing history, all performed at Porsche center. The car is well-preserved, the bodywork shows no signs of discolouration or wear, the interior has been redone. The fabric covering of the soft top is in perfect condition, without tearing or discolouration, as is the rear window.
