2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0, 3.2, 3.3, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0... simply numbers to most, but to anyone who lives and breathes Porsche they're code to decipher model year range, model, horsepower, induction type and even engine case material. However, there is the rare occasion when this type of regimented order can be upended - as is the case with the number 3.1. If you're not familiar with a 911 sold by Porsche in the early 1980s with a 3.1-liter engine don't worry, most aren't. As a 'Power Increase' package offered through the Sonderwunsch (special wishes) department, Porsche created a significantly more powerful engine – roughly 30 hp - over the standard 3.0-liter. In a recent 000 Magazine article about these very cars, Porsche themselves are unsure how many 'werks' 911 SC-L 3.1 were constructed, with noted Porsche authority Georg Konradsheim stating that he, 'can't imagine it was more than 150 cars' made with this special 3.1-liter engine.

With these details lost to time, many of these special wishes 911 SC-L 3.1 were treated just like any 911 SC and, as such, have many miles, modifications, and wear on them after 40 years on the road. Not so for this special Targa! Featuring a scant 18,989 miles at cataloging with its condition and original details to back that up, this 911 SC-L 3.1 may be one of the best preserved examples of one of the rarest and least-understood factory Sonderwunsch cars ever made. Finished in Silver Metallic over a partial black leather interior, this example features a CoA, owners manuals, service booklet, a tool kit, and jack. As one of the rarest and most interesting of Porsche's Sonderwunch creations, the offering of this 1980 Porsche 911 SC-L 3.1 Targa represents, perhaps, an unrepeatable opportunity to find a well preserved, original example of this factory built hot-rod.
