A mythical car if ever there were one, the Porsche 911 has crossed the decades with a success that has grown from generation to generation for nigh on 60 years. For 1978 the 911 Carrera 3.0 was rebaptised the SC and in its first version developed 180bhp – in the process outdoing the four-year-old Carrera 2.7. The arrival of the SC was the result of an attempt to rationalise the marque’s range, which with the new 924 and 928 had become both large and disparate, with different models in competition with each other. Of the 3319 examples of the three-litre 911 SC coupé made in 1979, one in particular would stand out from the pack…
The car presented on these pages was first registered 23 CWH 75, on 23 February 1979, to French singer Johnny Hallyday. A little after purchase, the legendary rocker sent the 911 to the Montpellier workshop of the Alméras brothers for a serious pep-up. Engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, accessories – the Porsche was pretty much given the works. The engine was taken out to 3500cc and given mechanical injection, and the braking was uprated to 3.3-litre Turbo specification. The body, meanwhile, was given a ‘Turbo Look’ conversion, with 934 Turbo spoilers front and rear and Gotti 15in wheels in place of the standard Fuchs items.
With the transformation completed by December 1979, Hallyday enjoyed his Porsche for three years before it passed to a Mr Dhulster in January 1983. Its new owner had the 911 regularly maintained by Porsche/Mitsubishi concessionaire SA Auto Sport and then by marque specialists Alain and Dominique Gobin in the Deux-Sèvres region. Sold in 1988, the car moved to the Nantes region for two years before being bought by its current owner.
Passionate about the Stuttgart firm, the new keeper decided to optimise the 911’s specification. It duly received Bilstein dampers and Recaro bucket seats, and was then sent to the Meznarie company for an overhaul and mechanical preparation; this was was completed in 1993 at a cost of 40,000 francs, as itemised in the paperwork accompanying the car. A regular at Porsche rallies, the owner entered the 911 for concours and regularity trials over the years, until in 2010 he decided upon a complete renovation.
The car was confided to the workshops of respected specialist Alain Triniane, who was tasked with having the 911 homologated for Group 4 competition. So it was that it obtained its FFSA passport and has ended up in the configuration it is in today, with both its standard spoiler and a more prominent 934/935 item. Always well-informed and keen to have his Porsche looked after by the best names in the field, in 2018 the owner sent it to Crubilé Sport for a complete mechanical overhaul at a cost of around 8000€.
With this very special history, and being on the market for the first time since 1989, this Porsche 911 represents a unique opportunity to acquire not only a car formerly owned by Johnny Hallyday but also one ready for participation in historic motor sport.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on June the 23th, 2019.
