The Porsche 911 was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963. The car was a natural continuation of the Porsche 356, which originated in the village of Gmünd in Austria, and whose production had moved to Stuttgart, Germany, after the Second World War.

While the 356 borrowed many parts and the four-cylinder boxer powertrain was developed from the VW Typ 1 engine block, the Porsche 911 was powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine. The sporty and round shapes with round headlights followed the design language familiar from the Volkswagen Typ 1 and still from the Porsche 356.

The air-cooled car was not only light, but also simple to maintain and tune. Thanks to its simple technology, it was also suitable for everyday driving and was easy and effortless to drive.

From the beginning, the Porsche 911 was designed as a sports car and racing car. In the mid-1970s, different variations of the 911 were successful in both the Targa Florio and the Daytona 24 Hours. Brand championships for Porsche came with the 935 developed from the 911 in the 24 hours of Le Mans no less than in four consecutive years from 1976 to 1979.

The wheelbase of the original 911 was already extended in 1969 to enable better handling. In 1974, the 911 G-series went on sale, which had a more modern and safer body with larger bumpers. With the G-series, the 911 engines were available with electronic fuel injection for the first time.

“The Targa combines the romance of a roadster with the practicality of the hard-top coupe. There is no car like a Porsche. And there is no Porsche like a Targa.” advertised Porsche in 1970’s.

This 1977 Porsche 911 Targa was ordered on January 14, 1977 and completed on February 3, 1977 at the Stuttgart factory. The car was sold new from the Gottfried W. Schultz Lintorf dealer in Rantgen, Germany, from where it soon ended up in Sweden.

The car’s history has been comprehensively documented since the early 1980s. The car left the factory with a 2.7-liter engine, but the engine has been upgraded to a overhauled 911 Super Carrera 3-liter engine. In Sweden the car visited in legendary Zirkelbach Porsche workshop in the 1980s. Zirkelbach is best known for its DP Motorsport slantnose Porsches. At Zirkelbach, the Targa’s body was widened and front and rear spoilers were added. The rear spoiler was removed when the car was restored in 2025, but the part is preserved and included.

The Porsche arrived in Finland in 1988 as a moving vehicle. The car has been driven approximately 30,000 km in Finland since the early 1990s and it has been used every summer. The car has been regularly serviced and repaired in workshops specializing in Porsches.

In 2025, the car was comprehensively restored and thoroughly serviced:

The Porsches’s body panels were dismantled and worn body panels and rubber/plastic parts were replaced: including the front fenders, rubber parts of the bumpers and whole taillights. The Porsche was repainted in the original Indisch Rot shade.

The car has been thoroughly serviced by Porsche specialist Lindqvist: Engine oils and spark plugs have been replaced. Lot of engine seals and hoses have been replaced. Gearbox has been opened and assembled with new seals and synchronizer rings. The heat exchangers, exhaust, clutch and flywheel have been renewed.

The car’s interior and targa roof were renovated. The door interior panels were renewed and the seats were refurbished. The interior is entirely black leather. The targa roof was also reupholstered.

A magnificent, serviced and refurbished 911 Targa, improved with period correct upgrades.
