Porsche took the decision to produce a fourth generation speedster to fill a gap following the 964 of the 1990s. The dynasty had started with the 356 in the mid-1950s and continued more than 30 years later with the 3.2-litre Carrera, in standard or turbo-look versions, followed by the 964. Production was limited to 356 examples of this latest generation, the number paying tribute to the marque's legendary model, and they sold within a few days, worldwide. The Speedster 997 was only available in two colours, Carrera White and Pure Blue. Built on the base of the Carrera S with two or four-wheel drive, it was fitted with the 408bhp 3,800cc Carrera classic engine and had a top speed of 302 km/h. The rear track was enlarged by 4.4cm and the rakish windscreen, shortened by 6cm, gave the car a more sporty look, enhanced by the double bubble behind the seats, already seen on previous models. Superb black 19-inch Fuchs wheels fitted with Bridgestone tyres revealed imposing yellow-painted six-cylinder brake calipers. These models were delivered with all the options, and the black leather upholstery overstitched in the colour of the body has a stunning effect. These extremely rare and sought-after Speedsters are already collectible models, just as the three earlier series were.
