The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. As soon as it was launched in September 1963 it dominated its class and today, albeit very much more developed, it continues to attract adulation from enthusiasts and the motoring press alike. In motor racing the 911, in increasingly modified form, also remains a force to be reckoned with and the introduction of the FIA GT Championship has ultimately seen the formation of four classes, GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4. The GT3 class was intended for cars based more closely on production models, although one is unlikely to encounter such a car on public roads.
