Between 1994 and 1995, Porsche reworked the Carrera’s 3.6-liter type M64 engine, increasing displacement to 3.8 liters while reducing the weight of internal components. The new 3.8-liter flat-six developed 300 bhp and was the engine selected for the Cup and RSR models that would be campaigned in international GT racing series. To homologate these models, Porsche built the road-going Carrera RS, the most powerful normally aspirated 993 and the last air-cooled 911 to carry the famous Rennsport (RS) moniker.

As the foundation for Porsche’s GT racing program, the Carrera RS trimmed nearly 200 pounds from the curb weight of a production 993, featured a strengthened body shell, lightweight-aluminum opening panels, thinner glass, and benefited from carefully tuned, adjustable suspension. The RS also received large-capacity oil coolers, a limited-slip differential, Turbo brakes, and a revised traction-control system.

Completed on July 20, 1995, this unique Speed Yellow Carrera RS was specified for German delivery and ideally equipped for road use with air-conditioning, higher amperage battery, power windows, sport seats, Blaupunkt Düsseldorf radio, and the standard front and rear spoiler package. The original owner, Helmut Boczkowski, who purchased the car through Porsche Zentrum Giessen, custom-ordered his RS with body-colored wheels, making it a visually distinctive example. Mr. Boczkowski, who took delivery of the car in August 1996, received a 993 Carrera RS tailored specifically to his needs, a lightweight and high-performance example that would be well suited to longer journeys and touring with desirable creature comforts.

The RS remained in Germany under the care of only two owners until 2018, when it was imported to the US with less than 23,000 kilometers recorded. Since then, it has been owned by US-based Porsche collectors and remains in exceptionally original condition today.

As the last air-cooled Rennsport model, the 993 Carrera RS will maintain an important place in Porsche history and is increasingly appreciated by forward-thinking collectors. As high-performance models, many of these cars were raced, tracked, and otherwise led hard lives. High-quality examples are in scarce supply, making this attractive, highly optioned, and wellpreserved example all the more appealing.
