The Speedster name is deeply rooted in Porsche’s history, dating back to 1954 when the 356 Speedster was introduced in response to a request from Porsche’s legendary US distributor, Max Hoffman, for a less expensive entry level Porsche. The resulting car became an icon, leading to reappearance of the Speedster concept in the 1980s. This was extended to the the 964 generation at the end of its production life, with a Speedster variant arriving in 1993, incorporating simplified door panels, lower windscreen, hard tonneau cover to replace the rear seats, and more rudimentary lightweight convertible top.

This particular car is an exceptionally clean 35,000 mile example which is equipped with all the Speedster-specific (in the US) options: hard back sport seats, contrasting interior accents, and color coded wheels, and finished in Guards Red, it is thus in exactly the configuration displayed in Porsche’s factory sales brochure specific to the 964 Speedster.
