While all 911s are brilliant, the best are forged in the crucible of motorsport. Built to homologate the 3.8-liter RSR for competition in BPR GT3 and GT4 racing, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is essentially a racing car built for use on the road.

At its heart is the 3.8-liter normally aspirated Type M64/20 engine producing 296 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 262 pound-feet of torque at 5,400 rpm. Its Variocam variable-length intake system and newly designed forged pistons introduced additional weight savings over the standard 3.8-liter engine. This distinctive powerplant sports dual oil coolers, lightened rocker arms, and a host of additional performance upgrades befitting its role as a homologation special. The gearing of its Type G50/31 six-speed manual transmission is optimized for acceleration, rather than top speed.

Porsche also fitted a limited-slip differential, 993 Turbo-sourced anti-lock brakes, and ADB traction control. Immense 265/35ZR-18R tires in the rear and 225/40ZR-18 tires in the front are mounted on special 18-inch “Speedline for Porsche” three-piece, light-alloy wheels with magnesium centers.

Completed on 27 July 1995, this Grand Prix White over black example was delivered new to Japan via Porsche’s official distributor, the Mizwa Corporation. It is desirably equipped with the Japanese equipment group, providing amenities including power windows, airbags, air conditioning, and upgraded battery. It also wears the distinctive, highly desirable Clubsport Aero package, featuring a massive rear wing and front spoiler from the track-only 993 RS Clubsport. The chassis’ sequence number identifies it as the 626th RS 3.8 example produced between 1994 and 1996, and one of just 274 produced for the 1995 model year.

This car was imported to the United States from Japan in 2016 under “show and display” provisions and was acquired by the consignor in 2018 then showing 28,960 kilometers (~17,990 miles). Having traveled fewer than 70 miles while in their care, this 3.8 RS is offered for sale accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Japanese manuals and service invoices, Porsche radio, jack, spare wheel, and tools.

The Carrera RS is the rarest, most focused iteration of the 993 platform. Just over 1,000 were built, of which none were originally exported to the United States. Today, very few have made their way to the United States and many of those are kept out of sight in private collections. This attractive, documented 3.8 is now past the 25-year import restriction window and would be a rewarding acquisition for its next owner to enjoy—without limitation—on US roadways.
