Der Porsche 356 ist das erste Serienmodell von Porsche. Die Typbezeichnung 356 für den Sportwagen ist die laufende Nummer dieser Porsche-Konstruktion. Der Motor hatte die Konstruktionsnummer 369. Als „Geburtstag“ des Porsche 356 gilt der 7. Juli 1948, an dem der erste Testbericht über ein Porsche-Coupé erschien. Im April 1965 endete die Produktion der Baureihe 356. 76.302 Wagen wurden insgesamt über sämtliche Varianten hinweg gebaut. Der Porsche 356 wurde in mehreren Modell-Generationen hergestellt. Alle Varianten hatten einen 4-Zylinder-Heckmotor und Hinterradantrieb. Die ersten Porsche 356 enthielten viele Serienteile von VW, wie Getriebe, Bremsen, Vorder- und Hinterachsfederung und Lenkung. Ab 1950 gab es vorn Duplexbremsen. Während seiner Produktionszeit verbesserte Porsche den Typ 356 immer weiter, behielt aber typische Merkmale wie die für Porsche patentierte und vom VW Käfer bekannte vordere Kurbellenkerachse sowie die an Längsschubstreben geführte hintere Pendelachse mit Drehstabfedern bei. Die Motoren basierten zwar immer auf dem VW-Original, wurden aber stetig weiterentwickelt.

Und so ist der Porsche 356 noch heute das wohl reizvollste Fahrzeug aus der knapp 70 Jahre währenden Firmenhistorie, welches in Punkto Design und Handling seinerzeit Maßstäbe setzte. Und auch nach Jahrzehnten hat der Mythos 356 nichts von seinem alten Glanz verloren. Insbesondere der Porsche 356 C, welcher die letzte Evolutionsstufe der Baureihe 356 markiert.

Das hier angebotene Fahrzeug wurde laut dem uns vorliegendem Porsche Echtheitszertifikat 1964 in die USA nach Virginia ausgeliefert. Hier sollte das Porsche Cabriolet bis in das Jahr 1995 verbleiben. Mit einer Laufleistung von 88.764 Meilen wurde der Wagen im März 1995 von Virginia nach Italien überführt und an seinem neuen Besitzer in Napoli übergeben. Im Jahr 2005 gab dieser den Auftrag, den noch immer originalen Porsche streng nach Datenkarte von Grund auf zu restaurieren. Und so zeigt sich der Wagen heute in eben jener Farbkombination, in welcher er 1964 das Werk in Zuffenhausen verlassen hat. 2011 entschloss sich der italienische Besitzer schlussendlich sein Cabriolet zu verkaufen und so kehrte der Porsche zurück in sein Ursprungsland, nahe seiner Geburtsstätte. Nach einigen Monaten entschied sich der neue Besitzer, wohnhaft in Leonberg bei Stuttgart, bei dem anerkannten Porsche Spezialisten Krämer einen Auftrag zu platzieren, um den Porsche technisch nochmals aufarbeiten zu lassen. Und so präsentiert sich dieses Porsche 356 Cabriolet C heute in einem optisch wie technisch makellosen Zustand, bereit den Mythos 356 auch in den kommenden Jahrzehnten erfahrbar zu machen.

The Porsche 356 was Porsche’s first production model. The type designation “356” for the sports car is the sequential number of this Porsche design. The engine’s construction number was 369 and the "birthday" of the Porsche 356 is said to be 7 July 1948, when the first test report on a Porsche coupé was published. Production of the 356 series ended in April 1965. 76,302 cars were built in total, in all the variants. The Porsche 356 was produced in several model generations. All variants had a 4-cylinder rear engine and rear-wheel drive. The first Porsche 356s comprised many VW production parts, such as gearboxes, brakes, front and rear axle suspension and steering. As from 1950 the car had duplex brakes at the front. During its production period, Porsche continued to improve the Type 356, but retained its typical features, such as, the front crankshaft axle that had been patented for Porsche and was well-known from the VW Beetle, and the rear oscillating axle with torsion bar springs guided on longitudinal push rods. Although the engines were always based on the VW original, they were constantly further developed. And so the Porsche 356, which set standards in terms of design and handling at that time, is still today probably the most attractive vehicle in the company’s 70 year history. And even decades later, the myth of the 356 has lost none of its old glory: especially the Porsche 356 C, which marks the last evolution stage of the 356 series.

According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity available to us, the vehicle on offer was delivered to Virginia in the USA in 1964, where the Porsche Cabriolet was to remain until 1995. With 88,764 miles on the clock, the car was transferred from Virginia to Italy in March 1995 and handed over to its new owner in Naples. In 2005, the owner decided to restore the car, that was still in its original condition, from scratch in strict adherence to the spec on the data card. And so today the car appears in the same colour combination in which it left the factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in 1964. In 2011, the Italian owner finally decided to sell his convertible and the Porsche returned to its country of origin, near its birthplace. After a few months the new owner, who lives in Leonberg near Stuttgart, placed an order with the renowned Porsche specialist, Krämer, to have the Porsche technically overhauled again. Today, the condition of this Porsche 356 Cabriolet C is both optically and technically flawless, and the vehicle is ready for you to experience the myth of the 356 over the coming decades.
