Beschreibung

Over a 15 year production period at Porsche Zuffenhausen factory, the 356 evolved from an aluminium bodied coupe with a 1.1L air-cooled flat four engine, into a four-cam 2.0L Carrera available in both coupe and speedster configurations. The 356 "B" was introduced in 1960 and continued production until 1963 with a host of both cosmetic and mechanical improvements. To comply with US specifications the front and rear bumpers were raised as well as raising the headlight height. Inside a new deep-dish steering wheel could be seen and to improve comfort new deeper front seats were installed. In addition to upgraded brakes, the biggest improvement came with the introduction of the Type 616/7 Super 90 engine. The 1.6L engine was fully revised with a newly designed intake manifold, an uprated Solex 40 carburetor, 9.0-1 compression ratio pistons, stronger valve springs, uprated crankshaft and Carrera air filters.
During the 3 year production period there were two major changes in body style known as the "T-5" and "T-6" with the latter being introduced in 1962. The front boot was redesigned housing a new petrol tank with access now located under a filler flap on the wing and to improve visibility, larger windows were installed. At the rear the engine cover was redesigned into a twin grill system.
This superb "T-6" example was completed at the Porsche Zuffenhausen factory in May 1963 in the stunning specification of Slate Grey over a Red Leatherette Interior and optional Dunlop tyres. Shortly after it was delivered to its first private owner Mr Donald K Thostenson of Washington, USA. Donald enjoyed both collecting and restoring classic sports cars and would remain the proud owner until his passing in 2000 when it was passed down to another family member. Remarkably it remained in the family ownership for 40 years covering just 50,000 Miles during its care free life.
Well renowned Porsche collector Loren J Hulber later purchased the 356 and subjected it to a most comprehensive restoration to concours standards completed by leading marque specialists Bruce Baker Enterprises. During the restoration the car was finished in SIlver Metallic over a Red Leatherette and fitted with upgraded Rudge wheels. The "Super 90" engine was expertly rebuilt by Denny Akers before being reinstalled into the car. Loren showed the car in a number of major concours events across the US. Testament to the exceptional level of restoration it won a number of events including the Radnor Hunt Concours 'Chairman's Award', Deutsche Classic 'Best of Show', Concours d'Elegance of the Eastern US 'Best Sports Car', 356 Registry East Coast 'First Place Award', Porsche 50th Anniversary Vintage Races 'First Place Award' and 2017 Amelia Island Concours 'Porsche Trophy'.
Today the car is Swiss taxes paid and it has covered under 400 Miles since restoration and as such presents in superb condition. Accompanied by a complete driver's manual set, service manuals, complete tool kit, jack and luggage set this concours winning 356 is ready to attend its next event and add to the already impressive list of awards.
