Beschreibung
Porsche 356 BT5 1600 Roadster 1961 – D’Ieteren – Superb condition – Rare example – 12-month warranty
This Porsche 356 1600 BT5 D’Ieteren (#89233) rolled off the Belgian factory production lines on July 18, 1961. Only 473 BT5 examples were produced by D’Ieteren, and only in 1961 (whereas the roadsters from 1959 and 1960 were built by Drauz, with 2,200 units made).
Even at the time, journalists and experts noted that the D’Ieteren roadsters were better insulated and more rigid than the Drauz-built versions, making them especially sought after by collectors on today’s market.
Our Porsche 356 was delivered to Jacksonville, USA, to Brumos dealerships on September 15, 1961, to Mr. Spencer Willoughly of Augusta – the original Kardex specifies it was delivered with a factory roll bar allowing for competition use.
Its original livery was Fjord Green (#6005), a color it kept until 2008.
Over the 43 years it spent in the US, the 356 Registry lists 6 American owners, including one – US Air Force Commander John Boles – who owned this roadster twice, 30 years apart. He kept the car from 2003 to 2014 and undertook a full restoration:
Interior and soft top (2003)
Bodywork (2008)
Complete mechanical restoration (2011 by Till’s Import Car Clinic)
In 2014, the car was acquired by a Belgian collector who imported it from the United States. It was then brought up to European specifications, maintained and improved by Porsche Van Beurden in Turnhout.
In September 2018, it was acquired by the current French owner.
Since 2018, the roadster has been driven regularly and maintained with care (invoice file), stored in a heated, secure garage under a car cover. It is currently registered in France with a collector car title. Finally, the car has a 2019 FIVA passport, number 078534.
Mechanical details:
The body is in very good general condition, with a flawless and glossy Polar Grey paint finish and good panel alignment.
Paint thickness readings are between 356 and 409 microns (indicating a uniform and high-quality respray).
Mechanically, the engine was restored in 2011. It is the correct series 616/1 (for the year and model) but is not the original engine (a 1,307-unit difference between the two engine numbers).
Original (Kardex): P-605161
Current: P-606468
The gearbox 714/2 is matching (#42935) with 4 speeds.
The engine runs smoothly, performs wonderfully, consumes no oil, and has no abnormal noises or knocking. It produces 90 hp on the dyno. There are no leaks or seepage from the engine or gearbox.
6-volt battery.
Wheels with chrome rims (dated), chrome hubcaps, 4 new Dunlop "Sport Blu Response" 185/65 R15 88H tires.
Cosmetic & interior details:
Blue leather seats, restored without signs of wear.
All carpets are in excellent condition, restored with Cocomat overmats.
Lap seatbelts.
Ashtray (option).
Le Leston wood steering wheel in superb condition.
Fire extinguisher.
Navy blue Mohair soft top in near-new condition.
The dashboard instrumentation is complete and everything works perfectly, including the Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio.
Odometer in kilometers (88,500 km).
In the front trunk: spare wheel, tool kit, original jack, tonneau cover, and soft top cover.
Underbody and structure:
On a lift, the underbody appears sound, with no signs of damage or rust, and features a protective anti-gravel bitumen coating.
Shock absorbers are recent and in good condition.
Brakes are 356 SC-type discs with aviation-type brake hoses and are very effective in use.
