The Porsche 356 Roadster ‘Drauz’ refers to the very first Roadster models (356 B generation), built by the German coachbuilder Drauz in Heilbronn between 1959 and 1961. Recognisable by their distinctive badge on the front wing, these models – of which around 2,600 were produced – defined the Roadster’s style: a low-slung silhouette, a windscreen with a chrome surround, and a level of comfort superior to that of the Speedster thanks to full-length windows and a soft top.In late 1961, production moved to the Belgian coachbuilder D’Ieteren, making the Drauz versions the pioneers of this legendary line.
The centrepiece of its historical dossier, its official Porsche certificate of authenticity confirms that the car is a ‘matching numbers’ example with a Type 616/1 engine, delivering 60 ch.
Whilst the certificate reveals that it was originally finished in red, the car underwent a high-quality restoration in California in 2013. On that occasion, the bodywork was completely stripped back to receive a sumptuous and elegant dark navy blue paint finish. This comprehensive restoration carried out in the US now gives it a remarkable appearance and aesthetic precision.
Upon its arrival in France in 2017, this example underwent rigorous maintenance and a meticulous inspection by a firm of motoring experts. Its latest official valuation, standing at €200,000, attests to the high quality of its restoration and its excellent mechanical condition.
