- One of the most desirables of 356s
- Very good restoration
- 40 years in the same ownership
The Porsche 356 Speedster went into production in 1954, and was originally intended for the American market, mainly California. It is easily distinguishable from the convertible by a special small and very low windshield. The very light and fully retractable hood prevents from the rain. The doors, lower than on the convertible, were equipped with single removable transparent panels. Bucket seats accentuated the sporty character of the Speedster, the early examples had been delivered with 16-inch wheels and the 1500cc engine.
Of French provenance, this 356 Speedster was purchased in 1974 by its current owner, an enthusiast from a family of wine merchants dealing with the best of Bordeaux wines. Undertaking the restoration of the car later, he had the registration document changed when the work was completed in 1982. When he purchased the car, it did not have a powertrain. The owner, a 356 enthusiast, had the car equipped with a correct transmission and an SC engine. Originally developing 95bhp, the engine received special treatment of the combustion chambers and inlet and exhaust ports, so that it developed around 100bhp. For personal and aesthetic reasons, the owner preferred his Speedster without the bumpers, but they will be delivered with the car. With its large wheels filling in the wheel arches, its low windshield and tapered line, the Speedster has a very good look. In the Porsche 356 range it is one of the most desirable and exclusive models. Demanded by Max Hoffman, the Porsche importer in the United States, so that his customers could participate in weekend races, it was simpler, lighter and sportier than the standard 356. This is one of the last opportunities to acquire a 356 Speedster at a very low estimate. The pleasure from driving the car on offer is exceptional, the performance is high, and the weight low. The look is so inimitable that it allows you to dream and imagine sunny California roads all year long, at a price that is most accessible!
