Yes, this is just “Smokey and the Bandit”, only better. This is a 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that has not only recently undergone a complete restoration and overhaul but has also received some very nice upgrades. It is not only a Firebird that is designed as a Trans Am, but an actual original Trans Am that can be recognized by the "W" in the chassis number.

The body has been reduced to bare metal and repaired where necessary. Subsequently, the body was completely repainted in this beautiful colour: “Midnight Blue”, finally a top layer of Blue Xirallic paint was sprayed to achieve this beautiful effect. This makes it literally a unique car to see. The car is on the correct wheels that have been fitted by the factory. The wheels are fitted with good tires in the correct sizes. In addition, several stickers have been applied in matte black, it gives a great effect against the metallic blue background.

The interior has been completely reupholstered. The car has factory vinyl upholstery. Besides the fact that this material is very stiff, it has the additional disadvantage that it looks cheap and has zero breathability. It is also very hot in the summer. You will not be bothered by that in this car. The interior was upholstered in blue leather and blue Alcantara for the centre lanes. It is unbelievable to see how much difference a choice of materials can make in the interior. The inside of this Pontiac suddenly looks many times more luxurious than before. In addition, the headliner has also been reupholstered, the carpets have been renewed and parts of the dashboard have been repainted. In addition, it is a luxury car that is equipped with a heated rear window, radio cassette player from the factory, electric windows and a tachometer.

The technology has been completely overhauled. The 5 litre V8 produces about 280 hp and is linked to a TH400 automatic transmission. That ability is not easily achieved. The engine has been completely overhauled and provided with several good upgrades. The upgrades include an Edelbrock 4BR intake manifold, Summit 4BR Black Series 650 carburettor, stainless steel Hooker Pipe manifolds, different fuel pump and water pump, aluminium radiator and a completely new exhaust system. It is not only the engine that has been overhauled but also the transmission. The box can therefore easily handle the power and this Firebird makes its sturdy appearance more than true. The chassis and brakes have also been completely renewed and equipped with a new Energy Suspension kit, new wishbone rubbers, new coupling rods, thicker stabilizer bars and finally a new fuel tank. The new brakes ensure adequate deceleration.

In short, not only a beautiful Pontiac Firebird Trans Am to see, sit in and own but also a pleasure to drive. If we can give the car a remarkable compliment, the driving behaviour can best be described as “un-American good”. So get rid of that moustache and imagine yourself a real Burt Reynolds.
