Pontiac finally got into the pony car act in the middle of 1967 with the introduction of the Firebird. Ford was off the charts with the hugely successful Mustang, and the Chevrolet Camaro was proving to be a successful competitor for General Motors. Available in five different variations that included the Firebird, Firebird 326, Firebird Sprint, Firebird HO and the Firebird 400; the Firebird was offered with deluxe interiors and very powerful engines, and was the choice selection for the informed buyer.
The leader of this five car grouping was the Firebird 400, like this car. With its 400-cid, 325-hp V-8 engine with dual exhaust, extra-firm suspension and standards like bucket seats, the Firebird 400 had its own driving personality and was widely praised. As period literature stated; “Leave it to Pontiac to do it right.”
Finished in Regimental Red with a black interior, this Firebird 400 has a center console with clock, an automatic transmission with B&M shifter, rear spoiler, twin hood scoops (standard with the 400), popular and optional hood tach, hood tie-downs, rear spoiler, wood-rimmed steering wheel and factory Rally II wheels. The engine bay is very nicely presented in keeping with the rest of this uncommon offering.
