Launched in 1964 by Chrysler's Plymouth division, the Barracuda amazed with its deeply curved rear window that swept back in rakish fastback fashion. In 1967, the Barracuda received a new even sportier shape to better launch the "muscle car" onslaught against the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet's Camaro. This fight translated into a succession of stylistic improvements making the Barracuda more and more aggressive, increasing the power up to 425bhp with the 7.0-liter Hemi-Cuda in 1971.
The car on offer has been fully restored on a very sound basis between 2012 and 2013. It is powered by a 5.2-liter big block V8, mated to an automatic transmission. The Formula S code includes stiffened suspension, "red line" tyres shod on 14-inch wheels, a freer exhaust, a special intake manifold with a big 4-choke carburetor and hydraulic lifters. The engine has been completely redone, new pistons put in, and the crankshaft, engine peripherals, the radiator and drive shaft were redone. The electrical circuit, brakes, suspensions, and the gearbox were also redone. All windows are new, as well as the chrome bits and body joints. The complete upholstery, consistent with the original, has been redone, along with the paint.
This rare Barracuda is like new and is a very interesting alternative to the Ford Mustang, and is estimated at one-third of the amount spent restoring this car. A hymn to the power, the Barracuda reflects a very liberal era.
