During World War II, one of the problems hindering transport was the shortage of raw materials, including fuel. Builders and craftsmen launched into the design of systems or vehicles that could operate with another type of fuel or energy. Thus emerged vehicles driven by gas and gas cylinders, and several projects for electric cars, the best known probably being the Peugeot VLV . This little Pierre Faure (formerly a collaborator of the legendary Luis Breguet) is one of those ingenious attempts. This simple device, unveiled in late 1940, was equipped with a tubular chassis, an electric motor, hydraulic brakes front and a chain on the axis of the rear wheels. With a capacity of 100 amps at a voltage of 72 volt, six batteries ensured power to the motor. The car could reach 40 km/h and its autonomy was estimated from 50 to 70km depending on the number of starts, load and road conditions. The body contoured shape, aeronautically inspired, designed by Michel Dufet and could accommodate two people. Total production of these Pierre Faure vehicles are estimated at just around 20.
This rare and original car is in very original condition and is complete. Registered for the first time in 1941, it was sold on 6th May 1943, and had the registration number of 2425CT5. The car's registration changed in February 1955. It is chassis No. 16, which the current owner acquired while the car was in the car museum at Chatellerault. The tyres were replaced and the brakes redone, while the rest has not been touched at all. The car is therefore in a "barn find" condition t and does not work. It comes with its original maintenance book and is a rare and moving witness to a difficult period where ingenuity made up for the shortages. It went through the years without being cannibalized and deserves a nice restoration.
