Beschreibung
Peugeot was a relatively late arrival to Group B in mid-1984, yet its potent 205 T16 managed to win 16 races in the World Rally Championships, as well as two Constructors’ titles and two Drivers’ championships, making it the most successful of all the Group B cars. Homologation for the racing model required a production run of 200 road cars, one of which is offered here. Powered by a 1.8-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, the 205 Turbo 16 has become a legend in its own right.
This 205 T16 was the 189th road car built, and paperwork on file indicates that it was first delivered to ex-race and rally driver Henri Quernette of Lasne, Belgium, in September 1985. Quernette had a history of competing in Peugeots, placing 5th in Class in the 1955 Grand Prix de Voitures at Spa, among other races through the 1960s. An account on file notes that Quernette kept this T16 for nearly 30 years, covering approximately 45,000 km before it was purchased and imported into the US prior to 2016. The consignor acquired the Peugeot in 2018, adding it to his world-class collection of road and racing cars. While retaining its original paint upon purchase, the finish was tired, and the decision was made to completely respray it in the original metallic gray. With the car being otherwise incredibly original and well kept, the resulting presentation is stunning. Recently serviced by the seller’s in-house mechanic, this rare and exceptional homologation special is ready to excite its next lucky steward.
