Rare, reliable and elegant car
Attractive estimate

After the war, the Peugeot 203 was the only model marketed by the Sochalian firm until 1954. Mechanically, it is perfectly in tune with the times with a 1300 engine with an Alpax cylinder head and overhead valves. Robust, comfortable and family-oriented, the 203 will soon receive more attractive bodywork than the sober sedan. The cabriolet version was presented at the 1951 Paris Motor Show with the ambition of making it a luxury car, in particular by offering better equipment than the saloon. To this end, the 203 cabriolet was equipped with leather upholstery available in three colours: black, blue or red. Compared to the sedan, the cabriolet is lighter due to the removal of the two rear doors, however it now offers only two seats instead of four. Elegant with its rounded shapes and flowing lines, the Peugeot 203 cabriolet is also a well-finished car with a very airtight soft top and fitted soft top cover. In October 1954, the cabriolet was given the name "Grand Luxe", a title justified by its even better finish. The front grille incorporates fog lights, while the wings are decorated with chrome shoes. Various features complete the presentation: special steering wheel, electric watch, double sun visor, white sidewall tyres... The 203 cabriolet will be produced until 1956, when it will give way to its replacement in the 403 range. Over the 5 years of production of the 203 cabriolet from 1952 to 1956 only 2567 units of this model were produced, making it a rare and particularly desirable model.

The 203 cabriolet presented was registered on 7 July 1953 in the Côte d'Or. It was ordered by Mr. Cortot, a Peugeot agent in Montbard who gave it to his daughter. It changed hands in 1969 and again in 1971 when its current owner bought it while still a student. This 203 cabriolet was his first pleasure car that he kept until today. It is now "in his juice" and some work would have to be done to give it back its former shine. The black bodywork was repainted in the 1980s and the red leather interior is still the original. The bonnet was replaced about ten years ago. Mechanically, the car works well, its brakes have been revised and its battery has been replaced before the sale. The 203, with its pretty American-inspired design, was a real success with the public. In its convertible version, it is both elegant and rare. There is no doubt that our model with its clear history and attractive valuation will appeal to enthusiasts of this model.
