Beschreibung
Reintroduced as the “Twin Six” for 1932, Packard’s all-new V-12 models were soon renamed “Packard Twelve” and built through 1939. Evolution of the Packard Twelve heralded many welcome updates, including a displacement increase to 473 cid by 1935. For the Fifteenth Series Packard, introduced September 1936, revisions included a new Safe-T-Flex independent front suspension, hydraulic brakes, and disc-type steel wheels. Three Packard Twelve models were offered for 1937, comprising Model 1506 on the 132 1/4" wheelbase chassis, Model 1507 on a 139 1/4" wheelbase, and Model 1508 with a 144 1/4" wheelbase.
According to correspondence on file between John O. Bohmer and the Packard Club, this 1937 Packard Twelve 1507 Convertible Coupe is one of 69 built and one of just 27 examples known with confirmed ownership by 1995. As documented in the car’s file, it was purchased in 1983 by Mr. Bohmer from Jim Strand of Lisbon, North Dakota, after seven to eight years of persistent acquisition attempts. The Packard required total restoration, which was subsequently undertaken by Scott Arnstrom of Lakeville, Minnesota. Completed work included an engine rebuild and a carefully considered refinish in a nonstandard, yet extremely complementary, 1965 Buick Riviera hue. Following the restoration, the Twelve participated in the 1991 CCCA Wisconsin tour, winning the William F. Crossett Award in recognition of the best car on its debut CARavan outing. In addition to a dossier containing known ownership history and correspondence, the Twelve is accompanied by over 50 pages of service and restoration records.
