Beschreibung

Packard’s 1941 model year marked the end of a five-year run of one of its most delightful body styles, the station wagon. Targeting well-heeled customers desirous of a more versatile model, it paired Packard’s proven eight-cylinder, 120 chassis with wooden coachwork by the Hercules Body Company of Evansville, Indiana. Just 58 were built for 1941, including the example offered here.

This car was carefully restored and benefits from Packard’s 1941 updated front-end styling and use of 15" wheels, providing a lower stance and more streamlined appearance. All woodwork was completed by Chris Messano Woodworks with paintwork finished in its original Laguna Maroon, an ideal contrast to the ash and mahogany wood tones. Its interior features tan upholstery on three rows of seats, a tonal complement to the wood headliner and door panels. This example also features Packard’s Aero-Drive overdrive transmission for long-legged cruising.

Following restoration, it was shown just once, garnering the Best Wood award from a field of more than 300 wood-bodied automobiles at the 2014 Wavecrest Woodie Meet in Encinitas, California. Beyond new show opportunities, its next owner can enjoy this versatile Packard in a variety of settings: picking up provisions for a weekend getaway, transporting gear to the polo fields, or serving as the gathering point for tailgate festivities. With just 14 known today, it is certain to be a rare sight in any of those settings.
