Beschreibung

"The One-Twenty signified the first time that the famous manufacturer Packard of Detroit Michigan had entered the highly competitive mid-priced eight-cylinder car market. The introduction of the One-Twenty was a necessary move to keep Packard in business during the final years of the Great Depression, expanding on an earlier approach with the Packard Light Eight. Branding the One-Twenty a Packard afforded buyers the cachet of owning a Packard. Other reasons the company decided to forgo the development of a companion brand name to sell the less expensive models may have been linked to its single production line capability at its Grand Boulevard manufacturing plant or to the expense of launching a new brand of automobile.
This curvaceous Packard presents well in cream paintwork with contrasting pale aubergine-coloured wings. The look is enhanced by whitewall tyres, a cream-coloured interior and a ‘Goddess of speed’ bonnet mascot. The plate mounted in the engine bay shows that this right hand drive Packard was delivered to Leonard Williams and Co. Ltd of London in 1937.This bench seat column gearchange model is also fitted with a Dickie seat, a rear parcel rack and an impressive front grille. Well known in Packard circles, the enthusiast vendor has owned this coupé for the last seven years and informs us that this 120 turns heads wherever he takes it. This Packard has also featured in the March 2018 copy of the well-respected publication ‘Classic American’. Given its sensible estimate, FMK 221 is an ideal opportunity to own a rare piece of pre-war Americana.
