In 1947, having sold their business to the Orsi family, the Maserati brothers set up Osca (Officina Specializzato per la Costruzione di Automobili - Fratelli Maserati) producing competition barchettas. Their star car, the MT4, dominated the competition in its class. In the 1950s, following an agreement with Fiat to produce a race engine, they created their own touring version, using a derivative of this Fiat engine, and a design inspired by Osca's heritage in competition. The resulting Osca 1600 GTs were bodied by the best coachbuilders, as chosen by clients who valued exclusivity : Zagato, Fissore, Michelotti, Touring, Boneschi...

The Osca 1600 GT presented has the tubular chassis designed by the Maserati brothers and the most powerful engine used for the 24 examples bodied by Fissore : a four-cylinder twin-cam with double Weber 38 DCOE carburettors, producing 105 bhp and mated to a four-speed gearbox. This cabriolet is the car exhibited at the Turin Motor Show in October 1963, and the second example to be built with this body. It was presented in burgundy, the colour it retains today, with optional hubcaps and lovely Amadori alloy wheels.
According to the previous owner, this car spent 25 years in the Miller collection before being acquired by the American collector David Uihleln. In 2006, it passed to Hugh Taylor from England who didn't register the car. Our collector, a big Osca enthusiast, bought the car at the start of 2012. It appears never to have been restored, and is presented in its original condition, having been well preserved over a long period of time in the Californian climate. Equipped with its original leatherette upholstery, the interior is nicely patinated and the dashboard is complete with Motorola radio and lovely Jaeger instruments set behind a large Nardi steering wheel. The battery is situated at the passenger's feet, as on the racing Maserati. The hood is easy to handle and when folded, the original tonneau cover conceals the false rear seat. The odometer shows 37 500 km, which is likely to be the original mileage considering the history and condition of the car. Wanting to preserve its originality while having a reliable car that was enjoyable to drive, the current owner had major work carried out to put the car back on the road, the Osca engine block being very complex. Maintained with no expense spared at RPM, the restoration work to this car came to around €8 000.

This Osca has been driven regularly, although never in the wet ; we were able to check that it is well sorted and starts easily. The engine runs beautifully when it catches its breath at 3 000 rpm, with an exhilarating sound that reflects its sporty personality, making this a lively car enhanced by the light steering and precise front end.
It comes with a file that includes bills, sale papers from previous owners, documentation on its homologation, from the Osca 1600 GT register, the manual for the model, a period advertisement showing the Osca in a fashion magazine, and various articles and brochures collected by the current owner, providing valuable information on a model that has not been widely documented.
This attractive cabriolet offers a rare opportunity to possess a piece of this glorious chapter in the history of Italian automobiles, and will provide its future owner with a taste of the dolce vita at the wheel of a racing car dressed beautifully in evening attire.
