When did you last see an Opel Manta A? It has been a little while for us too, especially in this condition. This two-owner 1973 Opel Manta A was supplied from new in the Netherlands. It is actually not so surprising that these cars are scarce, the Manta was a successful rally car, and as such many Manta’s were converted to the rally version. The first owner kept the car for 27 years and the second one took custody for another 20 years. They both were true conservationists of the Manta. One look is enough to realize that extreme good care and attention has been lavished on this Opel. The car has only clocked up 145,428 km and is in good condition. Our car is the Opel Manta 1900S Berlinetta, then the top of the range version. Berlinetta’s have alloy rims, luxurious upholstery and a vinyl roof. The 1,9 litre 4-cylinder engine develops 90 HP at 5,100 revs and has a top speed of 170 km/hr. This Manta has a great original body with splendid, correctly aligned panelwork. The paintwork has been resprayed for cosmetic reasons and is virtually unblemished. The vinyl roof is also in good shape, evidence that it mainly has been kept in a dry, heated garage. Now to the interior or better still the time capsule. Time appears really to have stood still. From the lovely thin 3-spoke steering wheel to the slightly discolored carpets, everything is fantastically authentic. The interior exudes a patina in keeping with the condition of the rest of the car. The original instruments and switches all are in good working order. Mechanically the car is sound. The engine runs quietly and delightfully smooth. The transmission has no play and is easy to use. This Opel has particular fine road handling. The Opel Manta is a real rare treat these days. Most have been neglected, converted to rally cars or simply worn out. Finding one as good and original as this one is virtually impossible.
