NSU Spider with single-rotor Wankel rotary engine, four-speed synchronized manual transmission, independent four-wheel spring suspension and front disc and rear drum brakes.

The small sports roadster, the NSU Spider, deserves to be remembered alongside the Chevrolet Corvair and Lamborghini Miura as one of the engineering marvels of the jet plane era. It was built in West Germany by a company that was best known for motorcycles and microcars, and was the first production car to feature Felix Wankel's revolutionary rotary engine.

Wankel's design replaced conventional cylinders in a block with an oval chamber, in which a triangular rotor blade rotated at very high speeds. The combustion that normally occurred in the cylinders, in fact, occurred between the tips of the rotor blade in the Wankel engine, creating an incredible amount of energy in a relatively small engine. The engine placed at the rear of the elegant Bertone-style body sends 54 horsepower to the rear axle through a four-speed transmission and full synchronization. The maximum speed was reported at the time of its launch at almost 160 km / h.

NSU launched the Spider at the Frankfurt International Automobile Exhibition in 1964. Unfortunately, production would only continue until 1967, as the Spider's engineering was a little too innovative for the time and failed and failed to attract many buyers.

Of the 2,375 NSU Spiders produced, survivors are extraordinarily rare, particularly those in good original condition.

This NSU Spider come to Portugal in 1972. I'm the second owner in Portugal. It is in original condition and it has an excelent restauration, No rust at all!!! Perfect interior and engine without problems. It is in excellent condition. The car is located 15 minutes away from Lisbon aeroport.
