Beschreibung

Jules and Albert Niclausse were originally very successful manufacturers of steam boilers that powered navies worldwide at the turn of the century, including the USS Maine, which ran 16,000 hp with 24 Niclausse boilers. The brothers began making serious progress in automobile manufacturing in 1903, with patents for a stamped, single-sheet steel chassis, followed closely by patents for a rear axle with a u-joint inside the axle, a clutch, a carburetor, and a steering mechanism.

In 2007, this Niclausse Type S was acquired by the Mullin Collection from Juan Coma-Cros, the grandson of the original owner, Juan Coma of Barcelona. The car still wears its 1908 registration plate B-247, signifying that it was the 247th car in Barcelona at the time of its registration. In 1963, the Niclausse participated in the 11th International FIVA Rally, and on February 17, 1965, the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain described chassis 007 as a “D Fronted Single Landaulette” when they provided the Certificate of Dating (No. 1038) and confirmed that the car’s Bosch magneto was manufactured in August 1907. Significantly, its first 100 years were spent with one family in one garage in Barcelona.

Following the Mullin Collections’ purchase, the Type S was displayed at the prestigious 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. The opportunity to acquire an original Niclausse, let alone an example such as this, which possesses highly original Binder coachwork and a century of single family ownership, should not be overlooked.
