- Immaculate condition with 2000 miles from new!
- The most exclusive of the " old " generation of road Minis
- John Cooper's last Mini, made to measure
- No reserve
In August 1998, this Mini Cooper left the Rover factory to be delivered directly to the workshops of John Cooper Works in Littlehampton. For none other than John Cooper himself, the " legendary sorcerer " who transformed a daily run-around into a pocket rocket for rallying, which led to a first win on the Monte-Carlo Rally in 1965. He wanted to prepare one final special Mini for himself. The car was completely stripped down in the John Cooper garage and rebuilt with a host of unique parts.
Starting on the mechanical side: the engine was prepared by Swiftune (for the sum of £25 000) giving a capacity of 1380 cc and some 138 bhp! The crankshaft and the pistons were forged, the flywheel lightened, the cylinder head has large valves driven by a SW05 overhead cam. Concerning the transmission, a straight-cut five-speed gearbox Coupéled to a short gear transmission, the case protected in aluminium. The intake and injection system are specific to this car and computer-developed by Rover's competition department. The exhaust comes from Janspeed and the rocker cover is in carbon....
Nothing has been left to chance on this car. The rear drum brakes are in aluminium, and the calipers of the front disc brakes have four pistons. As a nod to history: just like the first Cooper S, the car has twin fuel tanks. Coming to the cosmetic side, equally individual, the car is presented in midnight blue with silver stripes. An electric hard sunroof has been installed, never seen on a Mini (on which there was normally a fabric sunroof). The 13-inch wheels are fitted with Yokohama A048 tyres.
The interior is more of the same: Recaro bucket seats clad in Alcantara, electrically adjustable, door panels covered in the same fashion with integrated speakers, special roof and roof lining. The dashboard is machine-turned aluminium with Alacantara covering the top and bottom sections, the same as the radiator cover. The dark blue carpet matches the body colour. Aluminium is very present, from the door handles and trim to the pedals.. The cherry on the cake? The car has covered just 1999 miles!
It must be noted that because of this example, Minis of the year 2000 (the last of the old version Mini) appeared with the same colour scheme as the car presented here. It changed hands in August 2006. This is UNIQUE, for both its provenance as for the special mechanical and cosmetic equipment. The best Mini of the last generation?
