Whilst MG’s 1950 TD model retained the TC‘s drivetrain, the new model was updated with the chassis from the MG Y-type, featuring independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering, a modified hypoid rear axle and smaller 15” wheels. Nearly 30,000 TDs had been produced, including about 1700 Mk II models, when the series ended in 1953 with all but 1656 exported. 23,488 were exported to the United States. An example, similar to the two cars offered today, was tested by ‘The Motor’ magazine in 1952 and showed a top speed of 77 mph (124 km/h) and was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 18.2 seconds.
