Beschreibung

Debuting in 1946, the sprightly MG TC appeared in time for many American servicemen returning from WWII to ship one home – introducing much of this country to the concept of the sports car. The TC’s inspired proportions and timeless design are perfectly exemplified by this black over red leather example, which has been winning prizes for its purity and originality for over 50 years. One of only 494 late-production EXU-Series TCs built for the American market, it features bumpers, a concealed horn, and a subtly revised instrument layout.

Revered since the 1960s when it was owned by Frederic Remington Jr., and held in the consignor’s collection since 2013, this fascinating TC has been treated to respectful conservation of its factory finishes, rather than the almost-universally chosen path of complete restoration. As a result, this TC stands as one of the most original of its kind and offers the rare feel and scent of an undisturbed artifact – its decades of patina being celebrated rather than simply erased in favor of a shinier façade. The yellowed side-curtain windows, the original tools in the tool roll, the tinted canvas-covered instrument panel, and much of its paint and upholstery are, according to the consignor, original and date to their installation at the Abingdon-on-Thames factory 75 years ago. The recipient of numerous “Best Unrestored” and “Most Original” awards, this is unquestionably an extremely special TC. Close inspection is sure to delight the senses.
